Ambassador's Greetings

Dear Guest,

I welcome you on the new website of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in London.

The Embassy’s team is very pleased that our Internet site is launched at the time when Uzbekistan under the leadership of the President Islam Karimov confidently reaches a qualitatively new level of its political and socio-economic development, while Uzbek-British relations are experiencing new positive dynamics, opening up wide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in several directions.

Website is designed in such a way that to become a window to broaden knowledge about our country and the different aspects of its life, including the state structure, constitutional basis, parliamentary activities, development of economy, science and education, as well as the history of the Uzbek people and its distinctive culture. The most important current events in Uzbekistan and its initiatives on the international arena will be reflected in the News and Press Releases which you can subscribe to.

We intend to update the information on the Uzbek-British relations on a regular basis. They have deep historical roots proved by the fact that in the 15th century our great ancestors Amir Temur and King Henry IV were in diplomatic correspondence with each other and established friendly ties. Obviously, interests of the two countries in today's globalized world are close or coincide in many areas and predetermine the necessity of dialogue and joint efforts.

Given the increasing importance of the economy, you can find on the website a special section on «Trade and Investment», which contains comprehensive information on achievements of the Uzbekistan’s economy, its legal basis, as well as large investment opportunities.

While observing with satisfaction the increase of the number of British citizens visiting our country by 30% in 2008, we hope that the information provided in the «Consular Section» and «Tourism» will facilitate the continuation of this trend. Every possible kind of assistance to citizens of Uzbekistan residing in Britain will also remain the priority direction of the consular work.

It should be noted that the British-Uzbek Society and the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, activities of which are closely linked to the Embassy, play a significant role in advancing bilateral cooperation.

I hope that the acquaintance with our website will be useful and enjoyable for you, expanding the circle of friends of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom.

With best regards,

Otabek Akbarov

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan
to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
