Reception in honour of Paralympic athletes in London
8 September 2012, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom hosted a reception in honor of successful performance of Uzbekistan national team at the London Summer Paralympic Games 2012, where our athletes won first medal in the history of the national Paralympic movement and set two new Asian records.
The event, organized by the Embassy together with the Fund Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan and the London office of "Uzbekistan Airways", was attended by over 60 guests – sport delegation, high-level representatives of the Asian Paralympic Committee, volunteers of the LOCOG and other guests.
Speaking at the reception, Mrs Rajasagran Malini, Secretary General of the Asian Paralympic Committee, praised the results of Uzbek athletes, stressed that they have rightfully become the leaders of the Paralympic movement in Central Asia.
In her view, these gains are supported by the presence in our country of modern sports and medical infrastructure, systematic support for healthy lifestyle, involvement of the state and non-governmental organizations in this work. Mrs Malini expressed confidence that in the near future, our country will be able to host major Paralympic competitions.
The main heroes of the evening were ten Uzbek Paralympic athletes, each of whom received gifts. A special prize was awarded to athlete Sharif Khalilov, who won a silver medal in judo.
Guests of the event had opportunity to taste the dishes of Uzbek national cuisine, as well as listen to the live concert of national music. Great impression on the audience made our Paralympic athlete Miran Sakhatov, who also took a microphone and professionally executed some songs.
