Uzbekistan and Malta Signed Cooperation Agreement in London
On the 2nd of July 2009 the High Commission of Malta in London hosted the official ceremony of signing theAgreement on Cooperation in the Fight against Organized Crime, Contraband and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors between Governments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Malta.
In accordance with powers ordained by the governments of two countries, the mentioned document was signed by Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United Kingdom Mr Otabek Akbarov and High Commissioner of Malta Mr Joseph Tabona.
Signing of the said Agreement speaks about the significance accorded by two states towards the issues of combating international crime and drug trafficking. And this is not by chance, since Uzbekistan and Malta undertake important roles in their regions in counteracting those threats.
During the signing ceremony, High Commissioner Tabona expressed hope that “concluding this important agreement would open up way for further deepening of the mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Malta, expanding the legal basis of the bilateral relations”.
Ambassador Akbarov said that Uzbek side is interested in further expansion of bilateral cooperation with Malta. He pointed out the contribution of our country into international efforts on fight against transboundary crime and drug trafficking. Ambassador expressed confidence that there are good prospects to develop relations with Malta in a number of other directions.
