The event was held in famous Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre by the British Council jointly with “Make Your Mark” enterprise campaign. Along with the students from Uzbekistan, youth teams from Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal took part in competition.
Main purpose of the competition – to discover and encourage skills of innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, resourcefulness and planning among the youth between 16 and 20. This was reached by finding solutions to certain given tasks. Participants were expected to demonstrate their creative thinking, ability to work in a team and find non-standard decisions. Their skills at working with systems and telecommunications, financial competence and talent to be a leader were also taken into account. One of the tasks to contestants was to work out own plan to resolve the problem of environment pollution in one’s city or rural area.
The team from Uzbekistan presented to jury an original plan that included a creation of independent small enterprise to collect and utilize the waste in order to improve the ecologic situation in the city, as well as proposals on waste recycling at commercial purposes. At the same time, the plan stipulated the measures to change the human relation to environment, allocate parts of income for charitable purposes, and justification of economic self-sufficiency of such enterprises in Uzbekistan.
During the presentation, which was in English, the team also answered to all questions of jury, including ones of businessmen and ecologic organizations representatives. According to them, the presentation of our country’s young team deserved the highest appraisal. They gave special attention to successfully chosen form of the presentation, original view of solving the problem, its consistency and purposiveness, as well as to skill to protect the team’s position.
Member of jury Mr Tim Campbell in his interview to IA “Jahon” noted that “the team from Uzbekistan was absolutely wonderful, I liked their presentation. They looked very confident and there was no language barrier. I myself gave them the highest grade amongst all participating teams. I am sure Uzbek team have a fantastic potential and its members are perfectly representing their country at this international festival”.
