Congratulations to the President of Uzbekistan from the President of the British-Uzbek Society on the occasion of Tashkent's Anniversary and Independence Day
His Excellency
Mr Islam Karimov,
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Your Excellency,
I am delighted to extend on behalf of the British-Uzbek Society to you and the people of Uzbekistan my sincere congratulations on the occasion of 2200th Anniversary of Tashkent and Independence Day.
I have been visiting Uzbekistan regularly for ten years and I always admire the unique historical heritage, modern dynamism and vibrant character of your capital. Tashkent is known as the pearl of the Great Silk Road and has become the biggest city in Central Asia and an important crossroad for political, business and scientific ties.
I would like to emphasize Tashkent’s contribution to the development of Islamic civilization. It is gratifying that such sacred places as Hazrati Imam Ensemble where Osman's Koran is kept, Kukaldosh Madrassah and many other sites throughout the country have been restored and opened to the world during the years of Independence.
As the new President of the Society I intend to give a fresh impetus to the promotion of knowledge and understanding about our countries between the British and Uzbek people. I intend to support positive dialogue in bilateral cooperation.
Availing myself of this opportunity, I wish you, Your Excellency, all Tashkenters and the people of Uzbekistan happiness and prosperity.
Respectfully yours,
Lord Fred Ponsonby,
President of the British-Uzbek Society
