Photographic Exhibition “Uzbekistan – Past and Present, Places and Faces”
History of the art of photography in Uzbekistan began as early as in 1880s. From late 19th century till our days, different masters and talented enthusiasts reflected the glorious moments and everyday life of Uzbek people, creating the true artistic masterpieces. During this period, Uzbekistan has gone through fundamental historic changes that transformed the way of life and social aspects, urban landscape and economic infrastructure. At the same time, ancient traditions and rich cultural heritage are preserved and further developed.
This exhibition at the Embassy is an attempt to make historic pair-reflections of faces and places (some are same) of Uzbekistan in past and present through the lens of photo camera.
Unique pictures of Uzbekistan in the earlier 20th century are kindly provided from the comprehensive collection “125 Years of the Uzbek Photography” – one of many projects of Fund “Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan”. As for the modern part of the exhibition – it is mostly contribution of the “Jahon” Information Agency of the MFA of Uzbekistan, as well as some other photographers from our country.
This exhibition became possible due to kind support of the British-Uzbek Society and Oxus Gold plc.
