Meeting at the Oqsaroy

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met at the Oqsaroy February 19 with a delegation of Congress of the United States of America comprising Dana Rohrabacher, Chairman of Subcommittee for Europe and Eurasia of the House of Representatives, along with congressmen Paul Cook, Ted Poe and Brian Higgins.

The American lawmakers are in Tashkent within the framework of regular contacts between legislators of the two nations.

Greeting the delegation from the United States Congress, the head of our state pointed out that an auspicious bilateral agenda has by this time been elaborated with joint efforts of our two countries, covering political, trade-economic and other spheres and designed to address common objectives with an eye to national interests.

Stressing the shared interest in bolstering the longer-term Uzbek-American ties both at the interstate level and between business circles, the sides exchanged views on priority areas of interaction, notably the mutually advantageous investment projects with cashing in cutting-edge technologies and available resources.

The congressmen expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for a warm welcome and the opportunity to discuss major bilateral and international issues in constructive manner.

It has been said that the enhancement of longer-run and steady partnership relations suits the genuine interests of our two nations.

The guests noted also that the United States highly appreciates Uzbekistan’s assistance in the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan and the establishment of peace and stability in that country. (Source: Press service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan).




US Congress delegation pays visit to Uzbekistan

A delegation of the House of Representatives of the US Congress led by chairperson of subcommittee for Europe Eurasia, and Emerging Threats . Dana Rohrabacher visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on 19 February 2013.

The delegation, which arrived in Tashkent to hold bilateral meetings and negotiations, also includes Congressman Paul Cook, Ted Poe, and Brian Higgins.

The Uzbek ministry said that the sides discussed current state and perspectives of further expansion of bilateral relations.

It was said that the level of cooperation between legislative powers of two countries impact to dynamically developing the Uzbek-US dialogue.

The sides exchanged opinion on actual international and regional issues.

Uzqurilishmateriallari Marshals Export

7 investment projects were completed in Uzbekistan in 2012. Last year, the construction materials industry enterprises in Uzbekistan exported products worth US$64.1m. Building materials industry is kind of a litmus test, reflecting the overall socio-economic development of a country. If the capacity of the enterprises specializing in the production of building materials fully loaded - hence, the country actively construct housing, welfare and cultural facilities, transport infrastructure. In Uzbekistan, the production of building materials is one of the fastest growing. Each year we introduce new operational capacity, mastered the manufacture of modern competitive products, attract foreign investments. And most importantly - building materials produced in the country, just as good as foreign analogues, while remaining significantly cheaper for consumers.

Today, the Stock Company Uzqurilishmateriallari, which is responsible for the coordination and development of the industry, has over 100 different companies. Last year, they produced industrial products in more than 1.5 trillion soums ($7,4 b) and consumer goods for 157.6b soums ($78 m).

Experts point out that today the domestic industry of construction materials are increasingly penetrating foreign markets. This is primarily due to the fact that the country has established a number of businesses with leading foreign manufacturers that are not only investing money in modern equipment, but also bring with them their own exclusive technology. Total exports last year amounted to about US$64.1m.

Overall, the SC Uzqurilishmateriallari completed seven projects, six of which have been carried out by foreign investments. So, it was running an annual production of 5 million square meters of roofing materials on SP Silk Road Ceramic in Tashkent region, as well as production of polystyrene cladding panels and sandwich panels for BML Group design with capacity of one million square meters per year. Modernization, technical and technological renewal of production at the leading cement companies - Bekobodcement and Ohangaroncement were continued As a result, the country produced last year more than 6.8 million tons of cement.

The SC Uzqurilishmateriallari has also achieved significant results in production of localized products. Last year, domestic consumers have been proposed multilayer polymeric film, plugging portland cement, refractory fireclay bricks, electro graphite, caprolon, wood particle board, conveyor rollers, ceramic tiles, slabs and natural stone products, such as particleboard furniture tops, straw, waste wood and local cotton stalks. In general, the Company's established production of 24 kinds of building materials to 91.71b soums ($45,6m).

Already this year, SC Uzqurilishmateriallari plans to increase the power of ceramic tile production to 8.35m square meters. Due to the implementation of investment programs and industry development 1,028 jobs are planed to be created. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper).



Special industrial zone Angren



AGMK to launch production of copper pipes at Angren industrial zone

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgy Combine (AGMK) started implementation of a project on organization of production of copper pipes of various diameters at the special industrial zone Angren, the press service of the company said.

The press service of AGMK said that the project was included to investment programme of Uzbekistan for 2013.

The project is aimed at creating local production of copper pipes, complex use of raw materials, increase products, manufactured from copper, satisfy demand of population in copper pipes in internal market and export them.

The company said that Dubai construction company will build the plant. Chinese firm supplies equipment for the plant.

The plant will produce 8,000 tonnes of copper pipes of various diameters. It is expected that 7,600 tonnes of copper pipes will be exported. The plant will create 168 new jobs.

The combine said that the plant will have laboratory, warehouse and automobile entrance zones.

The project cost is 19.508 billion soums. It will be financed due to own resources of AGMK and loans of commercial banks. The plant will be launched by the end of 2013. (Source: UzDaily.com).

FIFA Approved Bunyodkor Statium for World Championship 2014 Qualified Round

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) officially approved football stadium “Bunyodkor” in Tashkent as a place of holding match of 4th qualified round of the world championship 2014 between the teams of Uzbekistan and Lebanon, press-service of Football Federation of Uzbekistan reported.

On February 18, 2013, Football Federation of Uzbekistan received massage from FIFA department head on holding qualified tournaments of world championship and Gordon Savich Olympiads. In the massage FIFA officially approved football stadium “Bunyodkor” in Tashkent as a place of holding match between the teams of Uzbekistan and Lebanon.

On February 4, 2013, “Bunyodkor” stadium was inspected by Pavel Luzanov, manager of Asian Football Confederation competitions department. Later, Football Federation of Uzbekistan received a letter from AFC which says that Bunyodkor stadium successfully passed inspection and ready for international matches.

Match between Uzbekistan and Lebanon will be held on March 26. Singaporean group of referees lead by Abdumalik Abdulbashir will judge the game. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper).
