Central Election Commission holds session

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a session on 23 December to consider the work carried out in the framework of the preparation to the parliamentary elections, including measures to ensure free expression of the will of the voters.

 

In accordance with articles 2 and 5 of the Law on Elections to Oliy Majlis, the elections of the deputies of the Legislative Chamber are universal, while the voting is free and secret.

 

The article 6 of the law states that representatives of the mass media and observers from foreign states and international organizations and movements may participate in all events related to preparation and conduction of the elections, as well as be present at rooms for voting on the election day and during the vote count.

 

The Central Election Commission made a decision to register 20 more international observers for the 27 December elections, including from Great Britain, Germany, Indonesia, UAE< Ukraine, the USA and the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

 

The total number of observers from foreign states and international organizations has now exceeded 270.

 

The commission also approved accreditation of the representatives of foreign media from countries like Egypt, India, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, Japan and others.

 

The article 471 of the elections law states that 15 deputies to the lower chamber of the parliament are elected by the Conference of the Environmental Movement.

 

The commission adopted a resolution on appointing representatives to participate in the conference.

 

The Central Election Commission also considered the results of the study of the activity of the district and divisional election commissions, as well as other issues within the commission competence.
