The new impulse of cooperation
A Belarus delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov paid a visit to Uzbekistan. The delegation included the representatives of the largest industries of Belarus.

Belarus is one of the CIS countries which avoided the "shock therapy" in the economic development, managed to preserve its industrial potential and uses it quite efficiently today. The goods of numerous Belarus companies have international certificates and successfully compete with those of developed countries in "price-quality" relation. More than half of goods manufactured in Belarus are exported now.

An analysis shows that the potential of bilateral relations in the commercial and economic spheres between Uzbekistan and Belarus is great but the countries have not used it completely. In recent years both states intended to activate it by increasing their commodity turnover. In 2006 its volume was around US$ 100 million, primarily, due to export of Uzbek cotton yarn and import of Belarussian vehicles and mechanic equipment. Today there are seven companies with Belarussian capital on the territory of Uzbekistan and four of them are based on hundred-percent investment.

The reality points out a number of factors which are favorable to the development of dynamic bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Belarussia. One of them is the stable economic growth in both states. There are also many attractive projects on setting up joint ventures and investing capital.

The bilateral interregional agreements would be an acting mechanism for the development of the Uzbek-Belarussian cooperation. Thereupon, special attention should be paid to strengthening the interrelations in the agro-industrial sphere where Uzbekistan could use good opportunities of Belarussia's agricultural engineering industry.

But here the two countries must be more active in resolving the problems of establishing joint ventures, creating favorable conditions for goods transportation and developing the inter-payment system for delivered goods. Therefore, during Andrei Kobyakov's visit to Uzbekistan much attention was paid to the discussion of problems touching upon the increase of commodity turnover between the two countries. Making a speech at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Republic of Belarussia, A. Kobyakov stressed that "the objective of our visit to Uzbekistan is to consider the opportunities of further increase and development of mutual cooperation in such spheres as economy, power engineering, science and others. We are for developing and implementing projects that take into consideration interests of both countries".

It is well-known that the basic condition of successful development of commercial and economic cooperation is establishment of direct contacts between the entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and Belarussia. Thereupon, within the framework of the visit a business forum was held and representatives of business circles of both states singled out the perspective directions of further cooperation. During the individual business negotiations entrepreneurs discussed the opportunities of organizing joint ventures, experience exchange and perspectives of bilateral cooperation. The Belarussian manufacturers expressed their hope to fix stably their presence in the Uzbek market.

Within the framework of the visit sides also discussed perspectives of cooperation in customs, banking, science, sport and tourism spheres, and signed agreements between Uzbekistan and Belarussia on establishment of joint intergovernmental commission for development of bilateral relations and mutual aid on the issues of pursuing tax legislation, and also the agreement on cooperation between the Academy of Science of Uzbekistan and National Science Academy of Belarussia.
