The UNESCO is publishing a book entitled "Formation and Development of Biomedical Studies in CIS countries" which has a separate chapter on Uzbekistan.
"Avicenna's book was the first to mention ethic norms of conducting research works in medicine and biology, states a chapter on the development of bioethics in Uzbekistan", commented academician Malika Abdullahodjaeva, coauthor of the book. "The WHO experts believe that among the Central Asian states only bioethics of Uzbekistan corresponds with four basic development indicators of this science. The country has the National Committee for Bioethics and information center. The Uzbek specialists conduct ethic tests and integrate special courses into the school curriculum".
Uzbekistan was the first in Central Asia to establish its National Committee for Bioethics of Uzbekistan under the Health Ministry in 2000. Its experience is an example for bioethical services of the other countries. When Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan set up their national bioethical committees, they mostly based on Uzbekistan's experience. The headquarters of Association of Bioethical Committees of Central Asian countries that was established in late 2006 is in Tashkent.
Today the Uzbek scientists express the necessity of establishing such committees under other administrative bodies such as Ministry of Agricultural and Water Resources, State Committee for Natural and Environmental Protection and Ministry of Justice.
