Roundtable Confirms Growing Women Activity in Uzbekistan
Woman is an indispensable part of all the priority lines outlined by the Government of Uzbekistan. The country attaches a profound significance to the wide-scale involvement of women in almost every sector of national economy and its political setting. The active involvement of Uzbek women even in a very wide range of political-legal processes in line with the parliamentary activities speaks for the certain notable level of equity and balance achieved as a distinguished consequence of nation-wide reforms being carried out in the country.

A roundtable that carried the title "The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women. Experience of France and Uzbekistan" was held in cooperation of the National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan (NANNOUz) with the Women's Committee of the republic and a range of other corresponding entities.

Conducted within the framework of the project "The Legislative and Institutional Capacity Development for Women's Empowerment in Uzbekistan", the roundtable aimed to support and build the capacity of the government, civil society and mass media in reducing the gender gaps via raising awareness thereof.

Taking the floor the deputies of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, representatives of non-governmental organizations, law-enforcement agencies, lawyers, and National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan - experts who are dealing with promotion and protection of women's rights in their day-to-day work expressed their deep positive concern for the efficiency being achieved as a result of the processes taking place as an important segment of active all-round reformations.

Also present at the event was the visiting Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Paris, member of administrative board of Paris Center of Information on rights of women Françoise Guyot shared the experience of France in family protection mechanisms and legislation against violence in the family where she stressed the countrywide both legal and practical processes taking place in Uzbekistan and said that the efforts of Uzbekistan in this regard are worth a true recognition. The deputy chairperson of Women's Committee of Uzbekistan Farida Akbarova, said that the two-day workshop allowed to discuss a lot on women's rights and harmonization of relationships in family. This event is of a deep significance in sharing the experiences of the two states correspondingly. Ms. Akbarova also added that women in Uzbekistan are actively advancing and have made substantial progress over the years of sovereignty.

Concluding the event, the attendees unanimously agreed that during the roundtable there were stressed valuable achievements of Uzbekistan in the course of implementation of provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in Uzbekistan in comparison with foreign countries with a due regard to a justice and lawmaking.
