The Red Crescent Society (RCS) of Uzbekistan is the oldest charitable organization in the republic, which supports the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on implementation of norms of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the country.
One of the main directions of the activity of the RCS of Uzbekistan is dissemination of knowledge on IHL among the population.
According to abovementioned and on the basis of working plan of the RCS of Uzbekistan dated on April 26, 2007 the roundtable was held concerning to tracing, activity of RCS and International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Termez for representatives of local administrations of Surkhandarya region.
Main purpose of the roundtable was informing the representatives of local administrations and public with the activity of RCS of Uzbekistan, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, principles of tracing and IHL, as well as to discuss the prospects of strengthening of cooperation with this organizations.
Representatives of regional Hokimiyat, department of Defense, Customs committee, national education, public health services, military unit ¹44278, institutions of citizens «Makhalla», local branch of social movement of youth «Kamolot», house of "Mercy" ¹12, teachers of the Termez state university, as well as Regional representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the countries of Central Asia and mass-media participated on the roundtable.
Participants of roundtable was informed on activity of RCS of Uzbekistan, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, bases of tracing and IHL.
Participants of the roundtable also noted that carrying out of such events is effective way of spreading of knowledge about IHL among wide layers of the population, and have supported the continuation of such practice in the future.
The roundtable was one of series of similar events on this theme which are planned to organize by the RCS of Uzbekistan during 2007.
