Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reaches US$2.7 bn in January-April 2004
Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached US$2.7 billion in January-April 2004, which is 32.9% more compared to the same period of 2003.

The country's turnover with CIS countries comprised US$847.3 million (up 32%) and non-CIS countries - US$1.85 billion (68%).

According to the Uzbek Economy Ministry and the State Statistics Committee, 120 countries are foreign trade turnover partners of Uzbekistan. The largest share of trade operations fell to sgare of Russia, Kazakhstan, the USA, the UK, Iran, China and South Korea.

Export of Uzbekistan grew by 38% in the first four months of 2004 against the same period of 2003. The trade balance made up US$403.7 million.

The volume of energy resources' export rose by 47.8%, ferrous and non-ferrous metals by 12.4%, machinery and equipment - 77.8% and services - 14.1%.

The share of cotton-fibre in exports volume fell by 2%, while the share of foodstuff, chemical products, energy resources, machinery and equipment, ferrous and non-ferrous metals increased.

The exports volume of small businesses increased by 32% in January-April against the same period of 2003.

The share of foodstuff import in structure of total volume of import decreased from 11.6% to 9.4%. At the same time, the share of machinery and equipment grew by 36.3, ferrous and non-ferrous metals - 22.9% and services - 18.1%.
