Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan
The symbol of the state flag
of the Republic of Uzbekistan goes back to the national and cultural
traditions of the states which existed in the territory of present
day Uzbekistan. The state flag was approved by the 7th session
of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
- Blue symbolizes everlasting sky and water as main life sources.
The color means kindness, chastity, glory and faithfulness.
It was blue that the great Amir Temur chose for his state flag.
- White is the traditional symbol of peace. It represents harmony
with daylight and heavenly bodies. This color symbolizes purity
and high moral aspirations.
- Green is the color of the revival of nature. It is the symbol
for youth, hope, and energy.
- The red lines of the flag symbolize life.
- The crescent moon is associated with the historical traditions
of the people and can be considered the symbol of newly gained
independence.
- There are 12 stars on the state flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The stars, associated with the traditions of the Uzbek people,
are connected with the signs of the Zodiac, which served as
basis for old solar calendar. The 12 stars depicted on the state
flag symbolize the centuries old culture of the Uzbek people,
striving for harmony and happiness.
State emblem of the Republic of Uzbekistan
The state emblem of the Republic of Uzbekistan was created according to the centuries-old national state knowledge of life of the Uzbek people. It was approved by
the 10th session of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan on July 2, 1992.
The emblem shows the sun rising over the flourishing
valley surrounded by garland consisting of blade of wheat on the
right and twigs of cotton plants with opened cotton seeds on the
left.
The eight-pointed star, symbolizing the consolidation
and unity of the country is situated at the top of the emblem.
The crescent moon and stars situated inside the eight pointed
star are Islam's sacred symbols. The legendary "Humo bird" (which
means the "Bird of Happiness) with extended wings pictured in
the center of the emblem is the symbol of national rebirth. The
composition as a whole expresses the hope of the Uzbek people
to enjoy peace, happiness and prosperity. There is an inscription
of "Uzbekistan" written in Uzbek language within an image of the
national flag on the three colored ribbon of the garland beneath.
Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan
A Law "On the National Anthem of the Republic of
Uzbekistan" was adopted on December 10, 1992. The country's national
anthem symbolizes its state sovereignty.
For two years, many poets and composers took part
in the creation of the national anthem. The joint work of Abdulla
Aripov, the Peoples Poet of Uzbekistan, and Mutal Burkhanov, the
Peoples Artist of Uzbekistan, was voted the best by the session
of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan
on December 10, 1992.
The creators of the anthem said that it should
sound solemn, embodying and glorifying the people. Therefore,
the melodies and rhythms from the imperishable legacy of the Shashmaqom
